Alonso has worked as a professional percussionist for  more than 25 years in all the different areas of the percussion world. From soloist with professional orchestras to salsa groups. he has been particularly associated with the contemporary music scene for percussion solo and ensemble.

He has premiered many works by composers from both sides of the Atlantic: Mario Lavista, Arturo Marquez, Manuel Enriquez in Mexico and Hilda Paredes, Pritti Paintal, Errolyn Wallen, Jeremy Arden, Michael Rosas,

Phillip Herbert in England.

He commissioned and created  “Latidos”  Spanish for heartbeats, a multicultural drumming installation an interaction between music - percussion with dance, film, literature and visual arts.

He has researched and performed world music predominantly the Congas in the Cuban Tradition and some of West African drumming traditions.
